There are lots of underwear styles for guys, but the one that I receive the most questions about are thongs. So here's my attempt to answer the most commonly asked questions and give you everything you need to know to branch out into thongs.
First let's talk about why there are so many thong questions. I think there are a few reasons. The first is that for the most part, thongs have not been "socially acceptable" for men and carry certain stigmas or stereotypes, so people are unfamiliar with thongs. Another reason for so many questions is that thongs are gaining in popularity, thus sparking questions from men. Thanks to social media, we're seeing an increased number of men who don't care what society says and decide to give thongs a shot and they are rocking them in their social media profiles. This is a social media trend I can and have gladly gotten on board with, and based on the increased number of questions, many of you are curious about getting on board with as well.
Now let's get to your thong questions:
1. Aren't thongs uncomfortable?
Not at all...in fact its a very freeing and liberating feeling, once you're used to it. Just as with any underwear style, there's an adjustment period where you have to get used to a feeling that is different than what you're used to. It's no different than slipping on a jockstrap for the first time when you're used to only wearing boxer briefs.
I tell people that wearing a thong is like having sex for the first time. It can be awkward at first, but keep doing it and suddenly it feels amazing. Also, just like sex, you have some trial and error to find out what works best for you. You'll have some trial and error when it comes to sizing, fabrics, brands, etc. This is true of any underwear though.
As far as sizing, you'll want to make sure you get the right fit, otherwise that strap between your cheeks will be annoying. Check out my recent Size Matters post for more tips on finding the right size. You'll want to make sure it's not too big (otherwise you'll have excess strap fabric) and not too small (it will feel super tight and uncomfortable between your cheeks).
2. What if someone sees me wearing a thong?
I get it, I've been there. Society puts a stigma on the man thong. And when you do happen to see men in their undies, such as at the gym, you'll notice a sea of the same old, same old. Guys tend to follow the crowd when it comes to underwear so it certainly takes confidence to buck the trend and wear whatever you want. But keep in mind, this is underwear. The majority of the time nobody will ever see it other than you. I made the decision one day to relax and not overthink. I decided to wear what I like, what I think is comfortable, sexy, and gives me confidence. Don't let fear control what underwear you wear. If someone has a problem with that, then THEY are the one with the problem. I mean really, there are bigger things in the world for people to worry about other than what underwear their friends or neighbors or coworkers, etc. are wearing.
3. What thong should I begin with?
There are a TON of thong options out there which can actually be overwhelming. The first thing to do is start with something you know. What brands do you love? If they make a thong, try starting there. It's also good to start with fabric you know you like. Everyone has their fabric preferences no matter what the style so look for brands and fabrics you've already come to love.
If you don't have favorite brands or fabrics, or they don't have thong options available, here two of my favorite options for beginners:
This, my underwear loving friends, is THE beginner thong. I had tried several thongs before this one came into my life, but they never fit quite right. The Daniel Alexander DA 780 thong is the first thong that I found comfortable enough to wear all day. These fit perfect for me...not too tight but not too loose. The poly/spandex blend feels smooth and sexy against the skin. The best part is that they are reasonably priced and you can usually find them on sale. If you want more of a bulge pouch, you can check out the Daniel Alexander DA 771 Protrude Pouch Thong. The only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the logo printed on both the inside and outside of the pouch. Thankfully over the years the size of the logo has decreased. There are several color options so go crazy like me and order a few. Overall, this is a solid beginner thong that I have recommended to readers and they ended up loving it as well.
If you want more of a sporty thong, I highly recommend the Otzi OT3712 New Experiences Slip Thong. I mean even the name of this thong "New Experiences" is perfect for your first thong. This thong has more coverage in front and back compared to the Daniel Alexander thong, so if you want something on the less-skimpy side, give this one a shot. This is one I love wearing to the gym because the unique pouch which has a a diagonal cut of mesh and regular fabric. It's also got more of a contour pouch which comfortably holds and supports my package during the workout. There are only 3 color combo options with this thong, but it's great, sporty designed thong that I think you will enjoy. As with the Daniel Alexander, this one has a great price point and can usually be found on sale.
I highly recommend giving both a try. And to help, use this link and register on Mensuas and you'll get $5 to use on their site (and full disclosure, I'll get it as well if you purchase, so you'd be helping this blogger out since the vast majority of my reviews are self-funded).
I recommend trying both so that you get a better idea if you prefer skimpier thongs or thongs with more fabric in front and back and a traditional underwear waistband. For me personally, I prefer skimpier thongs as they fit me better. The back strap I find fits nicely between my cheeks whereas I find thongs with more back fabric tend to ride up on my cheeks. Part of that is just an issue with having a big butt, and some is just personal preference. Again, there's trial and error when it comes to finding the right thong, just a with any underwear, so give these a try.
If you haven't tried a thong, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. The freedom, comfort, and confidence that happens from wearing one is unlike anything else. Get on the train with the thong revolution in 2018! Happy Shopping!
