Helms 27 Sailboat. Good Boat? Good Buy?
First of All, has anyone heard good and/or bad things about this particular sailboat?
Second, the Helms 27 we would like to buy is a 1982 model. It has a inboard 15 hp Yanmar diesel. Is that engine good or bad? Includes Main and jib. The boat needs a new bottom job and has blisters, 2700 at the boatyard we would have it done in. The interior has some water damage and leakage. Im a handy woodworker and can fix these problems myself.
I'm not sure how much more or what else to include in the description.

Jack Helms built good boats. The workmanship was as good as any, and his designs well thought out. I'm more familiar with the 25. The real issue here is how well did the owner take care of the boat. There's a lot of 27-30 boats on the market right now, and your price seems low......could there be a reason. Don't buy without an in the water trial run. If the engine is sound, it's worth the asking price. Good Luck!
