is it better to pull a trailer or fill a van?
we are a band, we're looking into buying a trailer we can fit everything we need in the van but it would be nice to have more room in the van, we don't really care about that though. I'm just wondering if it would be beneficial to the life of the van if it were pulling a trailer as opposed to being filled with all of out gear. our gear probably weights about 400 pounds all together would it be better if that was in a trailer or just in the back of the van how it always is.
400 pounds of gear inside a full size van is nothing, depending on what else is in the van.
An empty 4x6 U-Haul trailer weighs 710 pounds. Tongue weight might go as high as 100 pounds depending on how you loaded the trailer.
While you'll have less weight on the springs and shocks, you'll have a lot more load on the drive train and your gas mileage will go down towing a trailer, due to towing load and increased wind resistance.
I recommend putting the gear inside the van, unless you need the space foe something/someone else.
