Is it possible to mount a telescoping boom on a round mic stand?
Is it necessary to have a tripod stand for the boom arm?
Well, sure you can. If the threads match up, the go right ahead.
Now, you obviously can't extend the boom as far with a round mic stand base as you can with a tripod. If your boom has a counter-balance on it (a weight on the end opposite the mic), that helps. But, I see that less and less on booms now.
